About Alexis

Alexis was born in March, 2003 in Newark, DE.

She was the firstborn to a hyper-protective mom who considered bubble-wrapping and over-sterilizing the entire house (and anyone who dared to get within 12 inches of her).

Thankfully, this was balanced out perfectly by a hyper-fun loving dad who could hardly wait until she was a couple weeks old to start tossing her up in the air as high as he could.  Much to her father’s delight (and, ultimately, her mother’s as well), Alexis preferred fun over bubble-wrap.

From the moment she was born, Alexis was an unusually alert, aware, and curious baby – far more interested in taking in everything around her focusing on the back of her eyelids (as her new parents might have hoped).   And they loved and cherished every sleepless second of it.

As she grew, so did her curiosity and love for learning.  She had a knack for picking up everything quickly and excelled at almost everything she did.  While her proud parents dreamed about how she would take over the world,  Alexis mostly dreamed about singing at the top of her lungs for anyone who could tolerate it, dancing her heart out for anyone who would give her an audience, and laughing uncontrollably with anyone who would do it with her.

As she got a little older, Alexis’ inquisitiveness and brilliance grew into astonishing skill and acumen at almost anything she put her hand to – she particularly loved the arts, especially drawing and photography.  She also shared both of her parent’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Whether she was creating videos and Musicallys that received national attention, opening an Etsy slime store, or dreaming of opening an organic, farm-to-table restaurant – her spirit, intelligence, and outrageous talent shone through.

Alexis absolutely adored the time she spent at St. Annes Episcopal School in Middletown, DE, where she spent her grade school years, and St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal School in Wilmington, DE, where she spent her high school years.

In the final two years of her amazing life, Alexis found love, acceptance and purpose with her Starbucks family in Wilmington, DE.  Just a couple months before she passed, she was incredibly proud to have received the honor of Barista of the Month.

In the far-too-short time we were all blessed to have her, the most significant lessons we learned from Alexis were how to be always humble, and to forgive quickly – two things she was famous for, and better at than almost anyone on the planet.

On her maternal side, Alexis is survived by her mother, Christina Krause (known to her as “Mom, mom, mom, mommmmm, mommy, mom”); her sister, Ella Ferris (known to her as “my favorite sister”); her Aunt Brenda Krause (known to her as “Aunt B”); her Grandparents Dennis and Carolyn Krause; her uncle Paul Hart; her best friend, Alyssa Guilbault and the entire Guilbault family.

On her paternal side, Alexis is survived by her Grandparents Michael and Elizabeth Ferris; her Aunts and Uncles:  Corrie and Robert Treanor, Andra and Scott Ingalls, Christen and Bill Thompson, and Eric and D’Ann Ferris; and her Cousins: Ryan Treanor – Joshua, Nathan, Samantha, and Abigail Ingalls – Michael, Courtney Ferris, Ryan Treanor, Abigail Ingalls, Courtney Ferris, William Thompsen, Sophia Thompsen, Matthew Thompsen, Erin Ferris, and Katie Ferris.

Finally, Alexis is survived by a gi-normous community of both family and friends who are ferociously committed to continuously pouring into the gaping hole left in her absence.  Her mom, sister, and those most grieving her loss are comforted and supported by their never-ending love and commitment to keeping Alexis’ spirit alive until they are with her again in eternity.

Alexis C. Ferris, together with her father, Michael J. Ferris, lost her life in a tragic car accident October 30, 2022.  The world will never fully comprehend how lucky we all were to have her for the 19 short years she was with us.
